Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Group classes or private lessons ~ which program is better for me?

A: Group classes are designed to be a cost-effective way to learn dance, complemented by the fun of social interaction. They provide a unique opportunity to experience different styles of lead and follow. Private lessons maximize your learning through personalized instruction, creatively crafted to your learning style, allowing intensive work and faster progress. Please take time to review our Programs page, and feel free to call for a consultation with one of our instructors. It is important to consider your available time, your goals and your budget.

Q: What do I wear to class?

A: Casual clothing is appropriate. Dress comfortably to allow freedom of movement. Any clothing that hinders or constricts your movement will be an annoying distraction from your fun! For dance parties, think dressy casual.

Remember, you will be in close social contact with your partners. Attention to personal hygiene and grooming ensures a pleasant experience for all.

Q: What kind of shoes do I need?

A: Shoes with smooth, non-rubber soles will allow you to move comfortably and safely. We recommend that you wear dance shoes with leather or suede soles for maximum enjoyment. Heel protectors are available for purchase, and are strongly encouraged when worn heels can damage our floor.

Q: How long will it take to learn to dance?

A: It depends on your motivation, goals and resources. A combination of group classes, private lessons and practice time is the ideal recipe for success. As with any worthy goal in life, what you put into your commitment is what you will get out of it.

Q: What methods of payment do you accept?

A: We accept cash, personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit cards.

Q: What is the minimum age for participation?

A: We offer dance instruction to adults, age 15 and above. Private lessons are appropriate for high school students. Private group lessons for high school age are available upon request.

Q: Do I need a partner?

A: Please bring one, if you have a willing one, but you do not need one to participate in our group classes. We rotate partners in all our group classes, giving all students an opportunity to dance with their complement. If you prefer not to rotate partners, simply let your instructor know at the beginning of class.
