LAURA A. LeKANDER
Laura has held a certification in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor since 1981, practicing with a variety of private agencies to serve children, adolescents and adults over a 20 year period. Laura's "second life" began when she met Mark in a Martial Arts class. During training, she discovered that he taught Partner Dancing, and began to explore the American Smooth and Rhythm genres.
In 2004, under Mark's skilled tutelage, she began training in earnest, and soon began preparing for competition in American Smooth. A long-held passion for dance found its expression in Ballroom, and Laura graduated to teaching assistant. In 2008, Laura became an Owner/Partner in Austin Uptown Dance, where she continued to assist Mark, and teach classes, in addition to private lessons, in a variety of Ballroom, Latin, and Swing dances.
Late in 2008, Laura joined forces with Mark to see Rhythmic Motion become a School devoted to the art of Partner Dancing, where they could promote their mutual philosophy around dance as personal growth. Laura finds her greatest fulfillment in introducing beginning dancers to the joy of movement with a partner, coupled with the experience of gently challenging commonly held notions about image and esteem toward creating new visions for Self.
